'I STRIVE TO BE BEST'

The Aims of the Air Training Corps are:

To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.

To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.

To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

The Air Training Corps was formed on 5th February 1941 as a means of giving part-time air training to young men destined to join the Royal Air Force, the Air Training Corps numbered some 280,000 personnel at its peak. Today there are around 64,000 members of the Air Cadet Organisation worldwide.

The initial aims of the Corps were to foster in young men a spirit of adventure and an interest in aviation, develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship, and to provide training which will be beneficial in both service and civilian life. Those same aims exist today with the exception that we now encourage young ladies to join as well. Today's Corps builds on those earlier ideals and continues to produce young men and women of high calibre in all walks of life.

A Short History Of The Squadron.

The Squadron was first formed as a detached flight of 1130 Sqn in April 1958, under the command of Flying Officer Warren. In 1967 Flight  Lieutenant Pybus took command and the Sqn continued to flourish. By 1971 the Squadron had expanded enough to be granted Squadron status and so 2497(Cosford)Sqn was formed.
